29/03/2018 @ 11:42

Police in Welshpool are carrying out additional patrols in the town centre following a spate of criminal damage, and have identified the culprit of one incident.

Several reports of windows being smashed at premises in the town have been made between Friday evenings and Monday mornings, with repeat locations in Church Street and Severn Street.

A 20-year-old man has been reported for summons to court for causing damage to a window in Church Street.

So far this year, 19 incidents of criminal damage have been reported (nine referring specifically to buildings), making up 5 per cent of all crime in January, 4.3 per cent of all crime in February and 11.6 per cent of all crime in March. The total recorded crime for the month of March is at its lowest since April 2016.

Inspector Jonathan Rees-Jones said: “There has been a spate of criminal damage in Welshpool over recent months, and a plan has been put in place to find out who is responsible and combat further incidents.

“High visibility patrols will be carried out in the affected areas, and where possible CCTV footage is being viewed as part of the investigation into reported incidents.

“We would encourage anyone with information about any incidents to contact police on 101.”
