A support group created 13 years ago for women looking to breastfeed their children is on the move.
The Welshpool Breastfeeding Support Project has been meeting weekly at the Youth Centre in Howell Drive, but from April 13 it is moving homes.
Laura Minns, one of the Peer Support Counsellors, told us: “Our new venue will be ‘The Happy Room’ at the Welshpool Church in Wales Primary School on the Gungrog site. It will be the same friendly welcome, with refreshments and information available from 10.30am to 12pm.”
The group provides a welcome to families seeking information and support around breastfeeding issues. Over the years many expectant parents, mums and babies (and sometimes dads) have met up for a cuppa and a friendly chat, with the assurance of a Peer Support Counsellor on hand to guide in the right direction.
Karen Rushworth, mum of two, said: “We moved to the Welshpool area when I was three months pregnant with my second child. I didn’t know anyone in the area and the Welshpool Breastfeeding Support group was exactly the place for me.
“The ladies were so welcoming and informative of not only breastfeeding but all things children. I looked forward to my weekly visits to the group and met some amazing friends. No subject was off limits and as a group we helped each other through the first few months of being new mums. The group was a wonderful resource and I highly recommend to all mums to be.”
