No Council plans for free parking in 2011

Tesco’s free three-hour parking to lure shoppers will not be replicated in the town’s biggest car park to encourage town centre shopping it has been confirmed.

 

Traders have called upon planners to help them out by offering free parking periods in the Church Street Car Park, but their appeal has fallen on deaf ears with the Council saying they have not received contact.

 

A council spokesperson told us this morning: “We have no plans to introduce free parking at Church Street Car Park.  Our budgets have been set and part of the budget line is anticipated income from car parking charges from Church Street.  We’ve received no representations from traders or the town council with this request.”
