"Trapped" rail passengers ending up in Welshpool

27/04/2018 @ 02:30

Let the train take the strain they say. But for a number of passengers arriving at Welshpool Railway Station they don't actually want to be in the town.

It has emerged many passengers on the Newtown to Welshpool service on the Cambrian Railway have helped friends and relatives with their luggage on to the train at Newtown, only to find the doors closing quickly behind them, trapping them on the train.

Before they know it, they're in Welshpool.

A poster has now been placed at Newtown Railway Station warning the public not to help family and friends on to the Arriva Trains amid a number of incidents of people taking unplanned trips.

The poster states: "Please do not board trains to help carry luggage on for passengers. Trains are not scheduled to wait here and the doors will close promptly at departure time.

"Several passengers have had unplanned trips to Welshpool recently - beware."

It is not known if the "passengers" have been asked to pay for tickets for their unexpected journeys.
