Steve Kaye staying on as Mayor after shock vote

30/05/2018 @ 06:23

Steve Kaye will be Mayor of Welshpool for a third year following a decision at tonight’s annual meeting of the Town Council.

Councillor Kaye had served for two years and it had been expected that Deputy Mayor Councillor Hazel Evans would be elected to the office.

But councillors proposed Mr Kaye continued for another year and after a vote it was declared he had been returned to office for a third year.

Councillor Evans (bottom left) then turned down the opportunity to stand for the Deputy Mayor’s position and Councillor Heather Chave (bottom right) was elected after a contest with Councillor David Senior.

Councillor Kaye thanked fellow members for voting him back into office. "I consider it a great honour and look forward to another year."
