Flood damage means school will be closed

Welshpool’s Church In Wales Primary School’s Gungrog Road site will be closed on Monday and Tuesday after being damaged in last week’s flooding.

The school was flooded after last Sunday’s freak storm and despite the best efforts of staff and Heart of Wales Property Services will not be open in time to welcome pupils back after the half term break.

Head Teacher Mrs Justine Baldwin said she was disappointed to announce the school would have to close. “I want to thank everyone who has offered help including parents but because of contamination we have been unable to taken them up on their offers.

“The other two sites at Maesydre and Oldford will be open as usual. But we are certainly closed at Gungrog on Monday and Tuesday but I'm thinking of ways we can accommodate the children for the rest of the week.

“All school trips that are planned for the week will go ahead too. I really don't want the children missing out.”
