Mass disruption caused by cable fault

Welshpool businesses will be counting the cost of a huge power cut that hit the town centre for most of the day.

Businesses, including some of the big supermarkets, were forced to close and throw out some of their frozen food due to the outage that was caused by a fault on an underground cable.

But several businesses refused to be beaten, with Coco Coffee House tweeting: “When the chains shut, the Coco ship was well and truly kept afloat!”

Electricity was finally restored this afternoon with SP Energy Network telling residents and businesses: “Thank-you for your patience today.”

However, on a lighter note, with the Cross traffic lights not working, some residents took to social media to comment on how well it seemed to be flowing!
