Green light for new town hall lighting

Work will begin next week on the installation of £7,500-worth of new lighting for the Town Hall Market.

The market won a reprieve earlier this year when moves to close it, or switch to a new location, were thwarted by a petition and strong protest from traders.

And as a result, a pledge was made by the Town Council to modernise the facility with the new lighting supported this week by the Council Services and Property Committee.

“The Town Clerk confirmed that the new electrical intake is due to be installed starting on Monday 11th June,” it states in the meeting minutes.

“The Committee considered the quotes for lighting to the market halls (budget estimate £7,500). This provides lighting in all areas of the market to a higher level and using LED light tubes.”

The Town Hall is currently under wraps (pictured) due to Vodafone installing new communication masts, but the Market Hall remains open.
