Changing faces

Readers have been expressing their concerns to us following the installation of new communications masts on the Town Hall.

The town’s most prominent building has been under wraps for the past two weeks due to the scaffolding and netting required to install the new masts.

But readers have contacted us this week (editor@mywelshpool.co.uk) after being shocked to see the white rectangular blocks being places either side of the clock’s four faces.

One reader, who asked not to be named, said “surely they are having a laugh?” with another questioning how planning permission could have been given on such a standout town feature.

But the Town Council, who will benefit to the tune of thousands of pounds from renting the space, have moved quickly to ease concerns.

“Planning and listed building consent was gained prior to the work going ahead,” said a spokesperson. “The works are not finished. The aerials are to be boxed in and coloured to match the stonework.”

It is hoped that the communications masts will improve connectivity for the town which still has some black holes without any phone signal at all.
