The boys are back in town!

Welshpool’s boy racers have been back on the one-way system, and it is driving some residents round the bend!

Readers have contacted us to complain about the noise from the souped-up cars and MyWelshpool’s own follow-up to check out their claims found that cars were enjoying joy runs back-and-forth between the town’s two main car parks.

But while they appeared to be keeping to the speed limits on Wednesday night and not causing any problems, it’s not been the case on other nights this week according to fed-up residents.

“Sadly Welshpool is being used as a race track by boy racers this evening,” one reader told us on Tuesday. “One death caused by reckless driving is one death too many.

“One car must have been going 60mph up the main street. All it would have taken is a young child or elderly person to step out. It was like the wild west.

“They drive between the two car parks very frequently with very loud exhaust pipes. The problem starts from around 6pm till late.”

Another reader informed us that “it’s happening every night, not to mention a moped being rode on the canal tow path! It’s absolutely awful”.

Earlier this year, Newtown’s Road Policing Unit was dispatched to sort out the problem there, and checks found that cars were faulty and action was taken. Residents will be hoping that similar action will be taken in Welshpool.
