Charity chop

Wanting to help people less fortunate than herself prompted a nine-year-old Welshpool girl to do her bit for a worthy charity.

Poppy Hipkiss needed a haircut, but rather than go down the normal route of tidying up the loose ends, she decided to have enough chopped off that could be woven into a wig for a seriously ill child.

And not only that, the youngster has started a Just Giving page to raise funds for The Little Princess Trust, a charity that creates the wigs for children and young adults in need.

“I am so proud of Poppy for what she is doing,” said her mum, Zoie Hipkiss. “She had nine inches chopped off her hair at the morning service at her school which is the Welshpool Church In Wales Primary School.

“She has reached the age where she wanted her hair cut shorter and she knows of a few people who have previously donated to this worthy cause so she wanted to bring a little happiness into other’s lives that aren’t as fortunate as herself.

“She’s such a caring, beautiful little girl and this tiny act will make a huge difference to some people's lives.”

The cut was carried out by Harry Evans from The VIP Lounge, in Welshpool, bringing cheers from her classmates.
