Hit and run reported near town centre

A Welshpool man was injured after being struck by a car close to the town centre on Friday afternoon.

Police say they are checking CCTV in the area after Daniel Whyte, 20, was treated in hospital for minor injuries after being knocked off his bike at around 4pm on the pavement outside Moltos (area pictured).

“The silver Mercedes estate was parked on the pavement outside Moltos so Daniel went round the back of it on his bike and it reversed into him and drove off,” his girlfriend, Sophie Watkin, told us last night.

“He said he had never seen the driver before. He went to Welshpool A&E but he is home now.”

Police confirmed this morning that they have received a report and a spokesperson added: “Officers are going to view CCTV from neighbouring businesses today.”
