Welshpool supermarket to close

31/07/2018 @ 09:16

Welshpool’s supermarket war has claimed its first victim, with Iceland announcing it will close in September.

The news comes just months after low-cost champion Aldi took the town by storm to join Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Iceland in pursuit of the Welshpool shopping pound.

But Iceland has confirmed to us that it will end its longstanding relationship with the town with the loss of nine jobs.

“I can confirm that the Iceland store in Welshpool will close on Saturday 15 September 2018, owing to the expiry of our lease. We are currently in consultations with our nine colleagues at the store,” said spokesperson, Keith Hann.

“We are grateful to our customers in Welshpool for their support.”
