It’s carnival weekend!

Sunshine and lots of fun is forecast when Welshpool Carnival ventures into the unknown this weekend with a summer slot following its switch from May Bank Holiday.

The move was made to attract the summer holiday trade and organisers are hoping for a bumper attendance on Sunday to firmly place the annual festival at the forefront of the town’s social calendar.

It is a day put on for the town, and the town is encouraged to come out to support by joining in with the procession and attending the carnival field to enjoy the entertainment.

“It would be brilliant if people could show up and join in the parade through town,” said Heather Chave, one of the organisers.

“I know people can’t get lorries, but why not dress prams, bikes, wheelbarrows, or just walk? It is so much fun for kiddies and adults alike.

“Judging for fancy dress will be at 12 noon in Berriew Street Car Park. The parade then starts at 1pm through the town. Please come and enjoy the fun.”

The field events will begin at 1:45pm with the arena including performances from Titan, Samba Agogo, Cambria Band and the Welshpool Talent Show Winner.

Other attractions include inflatables, fairground rides, individual stalls as well as activities from Welshpool Rugby Club and the Flash Leisure Centre.

There is also a dog show and free singing workshops from Powys Angel Voice Singing School at 2:30pm and 3:30pm. The ever popular Animal Man will also be roaming the field.

The procession will have a Science Fiction theme.
