The end of the Carnival procession?

06/08/2018 @ 01:26

The sun shone and the crowds came out, but one of the lead organisers of Welshpool Carnival says the days of the once popular procession through town could be over.

The event switched to its new August slot this year from May Bank Holiday, but the lack of floats in the procession was once again a talking point.

Only a handful of lorries took part and it will no doubt be a major point of discussion when the committee meets to review.

“The procession, as usual, was not well supported and we will consider if it is worth doing next year if people are not going to get involved,” said Town Clerk, Robert Robinson. “However, it was as most years.

“The field was good. We had a few last minute cancellation of events including the football only two days before, but we did replace with birds of prey and some other activities.

“Titan the Robot was great, the Animal Man was good and there was lots to do. Overall the field was good but parade was pretty average.

“Thanks to all who attended to make the day a good event.”

Plenty of people enjoyed the day with the Welshpool Fire Station team tweeting with the picture above: “a fantastic day yesterday at Welshpool Carnival, a great turn out for such a brilliant event”.
