Housing bid turned down

Powys planners have refused permission to build five homes near Meifod.

Roger Parry and Partners, as agents, had prepared a planning and design statement on behalf of Mr SM Graves to develop a greenfield site at land forming part of Tyddyn Britton to the south of Pontrobert.

They said the the proposed development would make “an important contribution to the annual housing provision in Powys”.

But part of the issues with the site were concerns of the risk of flooding.

Consultees, Natural Resources Wales, pointed out that there was surface water flooding risk on the land in question and a watercourse ran through the site.

This was also pointed out in objections to the proposals that also said that attempts to drain the land there had appeared “partially successful at best”.

In a letter, Mr MB and Mrs SL Rowley, said: “This application is outside of the village boundary. Pontrobert has an abundance of houses and building plots for sale, many of which have been on the market for several years.”

Ken Yorston, Interim head of Property Planing and Public Protection, said: “Outline planning permission has been refused. The proposed development would result in an open market residential development outside of the defined settlement boundary.

“Insufficient information has been submitted to demonstrate how the development would protect, positively manage and enhance biodiversity.”
