Schools consultation extended

21/03/2011 @ 02:10

The closing date for responses to the consultation on Secondary and Post 16 Education has been put back a month, Powys County Council and Coleg Powys have announced.

The move follows the rearrangement of public meetings in Brecon, Gwernyfed, Llanfyllin and Llanfair Caereinion.

The new closing date is June 6, with the rearranged public meetings to take place in early May.

The public meetings in these areas have been rescheduled as follows:
-       Wednesday May 4th – Llanfyllin High School
-       Tuesday May 10th – Caereinion Leisure Centre, Llanfair Caereinion

All meetings are to take place at 6.30pm.

The council and the college are carrying out the consultation as they, like other Welsh councils and colleges of further education, look at how best to build on current standards with less funding in the future. The council is not including the closing of any high school sites in the current informal consultation phase but is looking at other options for making education financially sustainable.

More details about the programme, including the consultation document and survey and the dates of all public meetings can be found via www.powys.gov.uk/schoolmodernisation.
