WW1 comes to town

11/10/2018 @ 10:38

Powysland Museum in Welshpool has launched a temporary exhibition commemorating World War 1.

This year marks the 100th anniversary since the end of the ‘War to end all Wars’ and the exhibition will run through to December 22.

The Museum has run an annual exhibition since the 100-year anniversary of the start of the war was marked in 2014, and this year’s first part of the exhibition focuses on the Armistice, the soldiers, who returned home, the wounded and those that gave their lives for their country and for what was expected to be an ever-lasting peace.

It also takes a critical look at the costs of the war and the future it created, which certainly did not include world peace for long.

The displays in this part of the exhibition are based on the museum’s own collection of memorabilia and objects from World War 1. However, this year the second part of the exhibition centres on objects and collections borrowed from local people and displays hitherto hidden stories about local men and women, who took part or were affected by the First World War.

Opening hours: Weekdays (except Wednesday) 11am-1pm and 2-5pm and Saturdays 11am-2pm.
