Big bang mystery

Welshpool was left puzzled by an enormous ‘explosion’ last night, and woke up to another business with its window smashed and several cars being vandalised close to the hospital.

Residents took to social media last night after a huge bang reverberated across the town at around 10.30pm, with speculation of some sort of explosion.

It was even heard as far away as Guilsfield and while some social media posts said it was a firework that went off close to the town centre, one resident claimed that “no way was it a firework”.

Welshpool Police said that they had not received any reports of an explosion last night.

Sadly, the town woke up to Alexanders having its front window broken, and then reports came in of multiple wing mirrors being smashed close to the entrance of the hospital (both pictured).
