Woman dies in car crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 60s died in a crashed car near Churchstoke last night.

The woman, who is yet to be named, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.20pm. 

Police say the crash took place near the Blue Bell Hotel on the crossroads of the A489/B4385 junction and are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

West Mercia Police issued the following statement:

"Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision near Churchstoke.

"The incident happened on the B4385 close to the cross roads at the A489 junction at around 7.20pm on Tuesday (27 November).

"On arrival, a Nissan Qashqai was found to be in collision with a hedge. The driver - a woman is her 60s - was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly afterwards.

"Her next of kin has been informed and a file passed to the coroner."

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service say two appliances from Bishops Castle were called to the scene at around 8pm.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 665S of 27 November.
