A stay of execution

An eleventh hour intervention has prevented the closure of Guilsfield Community Centre on January 1, but there is still a lot of work to be done to save its long term future.

A wrangle over liabilities brought on by the purchase of recreational land many years ago resulted in all but two of the facility’s trustees standing down.

But the village has rallied round with an emergency meeting last night seeing seven representatives from the centre’s ‘user clubs’ stepping forward.

The temporary committee will ensure the centre remains open, and it will meet next week to plot a short term plan.

But one member told us this morning that there are a number of issues to confront before any long term planning can be put into place.
