Santa to star at Grapes get-together

Despite vandals threatening to ruin Christmas for one local business, it has bounced back and will hold a community get-together this Thursday.

Vandals smashed windows at The Grapes last month, putting the dampeners on what should have been a local business looking forward to its busiest time of year.

Its landlady, who was heavily pregnant at the time, was tempted to throw in the towel, but the community rallied round and this Thursday they are all invited to join in the festivities.

“The Grapes is a huge part of our heritage with our regulars,” said Terri-Anne Ratledge.

“Most of our customers came to our pub as children with their parents who, in turn, came to the pub with their parents before them.

“Myself and my partner now have a four-week-old baby living with us at the pub. What better way to welcome him to our little pub than celebrate with children of our customers with a visit from Santa at the same time?

“We’re also hoping to welcome some new faces to come and enjoy a community get-together.”

Entry is by ticket only with a price of £5 per child that includes food, disco and games as well as meeting Santa for a gift. It all gets underway at 4.30pm-7pm and tickets must be purchased in advance from the pub.
