Major livestock rescue from floods

23/12/2018 @ 09:07

Dozens of sheep were rescued from rapidly rising waters on Saturday following a dramatic joint effort from emergency services and farmers.

Friday night’s heavy rain resulted in the River Severn bursting its banks, catching some local farmers out.

Firefighters and police officers were joined by RSPCA officers and local farmers after reports of stranded sheep came in from the Pool Quay straight (pictured).

The specialist water rescue crew from Welshpool Fire Station led the operation to rescue the stricken sheep and thankfully the story had a happy ending.

“They were cold and stressed but it was a good team effort to get them to safety,” a spokesperson from the Station told us.
