Town Council backs plan for Berriew Street bus station

Welshpool Town Council is standing by its decision to back plans for a new bus station in Berriew Street Car Park.

Councillors heard that Welsh Government and Powys County Council were seeking views on the best location.

Options include Berriew Street Car Park, Church Street Car Park, Broad Street and High Street but the full council has voted to stick with its proposal for Berriew Street.

A Welsh Government Workshop attended by Powys County Councillors, the Town Clerk, Powys officers and representatives of the emergency services and bus operators was held in Welshpool Town Hall to discuss the options.

Town Councillors considered the implications for canal tourism and lorry parking a bus station would have in Church Street Car Park and despite reservations about acces to Berriew Street decided to favour that option.
