Powis Castle opens up to dogs

28/12/2018 @ 03:34

Powis Castle has launched a three-month trial to allow dogs access to their world-famous gardens.

Our four-legged friends have previously been banned from the property, but the Castle is giving it a go until March 31, and the early response has been positive.

“Thank you to everyone who’s taken time to share their thoughts on our trial to welcome to dogs at Powis Castle,” said a spokesperson.

“Many have asked about access on the wider estate. The deer park is privately owned and dogs aren’t allowed, so we ask you to park in the main car park and walk your four-legged friends from there.

“We’ve always allowed dogs in the car park, in the Courtyard and on the East Terrace, but our trial period until the end of March means we’re welcoming them into the garden.”

It is not the first time that dogs have been allowed though, as the photograph from Powis Castle shows the 4th Earl of Powis with his dog Patches.

“Our conservation and garden teams will be feeding back their thoughts during this period and we’ll keep everyone up-to-date with our plans. Remember, all we ask is short leads, keep to the paths and clean up any mess.”

To have your say, message the Powis Castle and Garden NT Facebook page, pick up a comment card from the National Trust property or leave a review on TripAdvisor.
