Cat death sparks new speeding fears

16/02/2019 @ 08:17

The death of a cat on a road sadly goes unnoticed usually, but one tragedy this week has sparked a call for action to be taken at an emerging black spot.

The cat was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the road that comes off the Buttington roundabout (pictured), close to the new Tuffins garage.

One resident has been in touch with us this week to say that there has been concern for some time that vehicles are speeding off the roundabout and into the industrial estate and enquiries are being made for a speed limit to be introduced.

“A lot of dog walkers and general pedestrians for the fuel station and canal stop around this area,” the resident, who asked not to be named, told us.

“Hopefully the cat being run over will be the last incident, but I doubt it because cars travel at quite a speed there in both directions and it is increasingly dangerous. There have been numerous near misses. A simple speed limit may potentially save lives.”

MyWelshpool spent time there on Friday afternoon to check the claims and found that cars, and even lorries, were driving the road at considerable speed.
