April 29th start for town's road improvements

20/04/2019 @ 07:44

Work on improvements to Welshpool’s one-way system will start on April 29 and there’s a chance to talk to the contractors next week.

There is to be an open day organised by Alun Griffiths (Contractors) in the Corn Exchange of the Town Hall on Thursday, April 25 between 10am and 6pm for residents to find out how the one-way system alterations are being done and how they affect the town.

The Welsh Government has ratified plans to change the one-way system, which has been subject to years of scrutiny due to accidents and traffic issues.

Drivers are being given a taste of how the system will work over the Easter Weekend with access to Church Street from Union Street closed and vehicles having to access Church Street via Church Bank, Mill Lane and the Church Street Car Park road.

Record transport levels were reported yesterday with thousands heading for the coast to soak up the sun as temperatures topped 25 degrees.

There were long delays for motorists on the Welshpool-Shrewsbury road caused by the restricted passage over the Cefn Railway Bridge despite attempts to manually keep traffic flowing by Powys County Council staff.

MyWelshpool understands that the repairs to the damaged bridge are being discussed by Welsh Government and National Rail.
