Tesco feeling the bite from store wars

09/05/2019 @ 11:00

Tesco’s dominance of the Welshpool shopping pound appears to be under increasing pressure after it announced it will be making cuts at its local store.

Across the UK, the supermarket giant will be making cuts at 700 of its stores, and in Welshpool the meat and fish counters are set to close on Saturday.

It is unclear whether this will result in redundancies but it appears that the competition from low cost Aldi across the road has made an impact. Nationally, Tesco is trying to cut £1.5 billion in costs as it faces increased pressure from its rivals.

News of the closure began to seep onto Facebook last night, sparking a healthy debate about shopping preferences.
