‘Little Chef’ site to reopen as cafe

The former Little Chef in Buttington is set to reopen as café, but it is expected to be independent and not one of the major chains.

Local Councillor Amanda Jenner spoke with the site’s owners last night after being informed by Powys County Council that an application for housing had been withdrawn.

She was told that it will be up and running this summer but it won’t be operating 24/7.

“They (owners) are going to be involved in running the coffee shop and so I presume it is independent and not part of a chain,” she said. “Once they are up and running, they will consider whether there is a local need to sell some basic groceries. However, this will depend on 'need' as they will need to be confident they can sell these.

"They seem great and are keen to provide something which will be appreciated locally.”

Little Chef closed a third of its restaurants in 2012 with 10 jobs lost in Buttington when it shut three months after the Newtown branch.
