Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on

Monday 18^th April 2011.

OTMS (51)

An entry of 51 cows sold to average 124.71ppkg. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan presented a Limousin cow weighing 829kg and achieving £1392.72. D & S Jones Brynglas Bach presented a Limousin cow to £1343.16. British Blue cow weighing 785kg from B L Griffiths Lower Penygelli achieved £1256.00. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.

FATCATTLE (13)

Steers and Heifers averaged 161ppkg. R Gittins Henfaes sold a heifer to 179ppkg to top the market. J E Owen Gilfach sold a Limousin heifer to 173ppkg. I M Willan Ty Mawr sold Charolais heifers to 164ppkg and 168ppkg. PE & BM Bailey Pantmawr presented three Charolais steers to 168ppkg (x2) and 150ppkg.

R Gittins Henfaes receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.

An entry of 1046 spring lambs, selling to an average of 256ppkg.

CULL EWE (2328)

An entry of 2328 cull sheep on offer sold well to average of £71.50 for the ewes and £87 for the cull rams. L Lewis & Co Geufron sold ewes to a top market price of £129 per head. D R Owen & Son Sandilands and H M Powell White House sold ewes to £128 per head. EO & VJ Roberts Cefncoed sold a cull ram to a top market price of £120 per head.

STORE SHEEP

A very busy day with good numbers of Store Sheep forward.

Store Lambs sold to a highs of £82 for the tup lambs from J P Breeze Fronladys and for theave lambs to £75 from J Wyatt Red Lion.

Couples. A large entry of around 420 ewes and their lambs sold to a top price of £184 on tow occasions. 2 & 3 year old mules with twin lambs from Bronhyddan Farms Ltd, Llansanffraid. Overall average of £116.85. Special Entry next week of Hoggs and lambs and Lleyn x Texel hoggs with texelx lambs at foot.

Cade Lambs. 55 averaged £14.36 to a top of £28.

COWS and CALVES

An entry of 25 Cows and calves and In Calf heifers sold to a better trade with the most people around the ring this year. Top price of the day was £1300 for a Limousinx 2^nd Calver with a Limousinx Bull calf presented by G & G Pugh Hill View. N Samuel Lower Ystrad sold a Limousinx 1^st calver with a Limousinx heifer calf for £1200. Making the same price was an Belgian Bluex 1^st calver with a Limousinx Heifer calf presented by T M Edwards & Son Spoonley Farm. Seven and a half and eight month in calf cows from Arwyn Gro Gro Dolanog sold 6 aged cows in calf to a charolais bull from £750 to £890. A special entry of 16 Limousinx In calf heifers due May/June 2011 to a Limousin bull from A T Edwards Glanaber sold to a top of £1220 to average £1040. Overall a breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows. £1200 - £1400 4 lots, £1000 - £1200 10 lots, £800 - £1000 6 lots, less than £800 5 lots.

Welshpool Livestock Sales are delighted to report on excellent trade on the 499 cattle forward for their February Fair. With buyers from across the country, trade was even throughout with the best cattle very much in demand.

Steers averaged 181.23ppkg, Heifers 164.42ppkg.
