Fancy becoming a Magistrate?

The search is on for people to become magistrates in the Welshpool area.

The Ministry of Justice has launched a recruitment campaign looking for fresh blood to sit as magistrates in north Powys.

An open evening will be held later this month to provide more information.

“Anyone aged between 18 and 70 can sit as a magistrate and you don’t need any formal qualifications as training is provided,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice.

While the local magistrates sit at Welshpool Magistrates Court, the Ministry of Justice wants to recruit people from across Montgomeryshire.

The open evening will take place at Welshpool Magistrates Court on July 25 between 4.30pm and 6pm.

Travel and subsistence is paid for the role and anyone employed is legally entitled to take time off for the role.
