Cup action kicks off new season

It may only be the first weekend of August but the football season kicks off officially for four local clubs today.

The opening round of the Nathaniel MG Cup gets underway, to provide an early insight into how some of our local sides at the higher end of the newly rebranded football pyramid will fair.

Berriew carry the tag of minnows into the Cup, having been awarded a wild card, and they entertain Corwen, while Guilsfield host Ruthin Town, Llanfair United welcome Llangefni Town and Llanrhaeadr head to Prestatyn.

Lake legends are back

Meanwhile, football is not done yet at Llanwddyn with a showpiece match taking place today at 3.30pm. The team from last season will be taking on the team which won the Village Cup in 1999 for the first game at the Lake for 10 years.
