Reader reports double trouble

Local residents are being warned to be on guard against two scams that have been reported to us by a reader.

Our concerned reader said that her elderly mother has been targeted and that she aware of others being contacted too.

“The first scam is saying that they are the individual’s ‘Visa representative’, and that £600 has been taken out of their account,” our reader told us. “My mother didn’t go any further with this call (luckily) but no doubt they are trying to obtain bank account details.

“The second is telling individuals that they haven't paid their TV and internet and that they will be cutting them off in 24 hours unless they press ‘1’ on the key pad and give direct debit details.

“I would be most grateful if you could make others aware of what is going on, and to get them to warn their elderly vulnerable relatives.”
