The fight to save one of our most iconic landmarks has taken a positive step forward.

We are in serious danger of losing Rodney’s Pillar unless urgent work can be done to make it safe to the public, and it has been decided to set up a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) to lead the campaign.

“This, in effect, allows charities to enter into contracts as corporate entities with limited liability for trustees and members,” said a spokesperson.

“Charities that take up CIO status do not need to register with Companies House or be subject to company law, but are registered with and regulated by the Charity Commission.”

However, volunteers are now required to become trustees with at least five required for it to become a viable project.

PAVO (Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations) has offered to provide training for potential trustees to show what the role involves. This will be held at Criggion Village Hall on Monday, September 2 at 7.30pm, and will last about two hours.

If you are interested in becoming a trustee, or simply want to find out more about what it involves, email so that PAVO can bring enough training materials.

“There is no commitment at this stage and you may be hiding some useful skills either as a potential trustee or as a volunteer,” said the spokesperson.

Fundraising is not taking place at the moment as the CIO has to be created first.
