Welshpool area urged to save energy now

 

Homeowners in Welshpool and the surrounding area are being urged not to wait until the winter months to make money-saving decisions on energy conservation.

The Energy Saving Trust says an insulated house remains cooler in the summer and believes local homeowners should act now before the unpredictable winter weather arrives.

Helen Northmore, head of Energy Saving Trust Wales, said: “It makes sound economic sense for homeowners to consider where they can stop wasting vital cash in the home. We’d urge everyone to pick up the phones to find out how they can start saving some money and reducing their carbon footprint today.

“Many people make the investment back within the first year of installation and continue to save money in their home.”

It is claimed that loft insulation can save £150 per year on bills and the independent, not-for-profit organisation says they can help people across the area secure grants and offers for installation by calling their freephone advice centre on 0800 512 012.

Mywelshpool spoke to one local couple that gave energy saving a try:

In a typical uninsulated home, a quarter of heat is lost through the roof alone. The Energy Saving Trust says that insulating your loft is a simple and effective way to reduce your heating bills and your home’s impact on the environment. 

Newly married couple, Geraint and Katie Thomas, got in touch with the advice centre and believe they will be quids in.

Geraint, 25, said: “The advice centre was very helpful and took the time to find out about our house so they could tailor their advice specifically for us.  We’re now going to have a free insulation survey so we can find out if we need cavity wall insulation. It could save us up to £115 a year on our heating bills, it’s silly not to and it means we’re looking after our environment for our young son.”
