Secrecy surrounds "suspension" of Welshpool Town Clerk

05/09/2019 @ 10:30

Secrecy surrounds reports that Welshpool Town Clerk Robert Robinson has been suspended from his post.

Newspaper reports this morning suggest that the town clerk has been suspended for the last 10 days but requests from MyWelshpool for confirmation from the Town Council have so far been ignored.

Mr Robinson, who has been Town Clerk of Welshpool since 2006 has not been at his desk for the last two weeks and was absent from the councils August meeting where his place was taken by a solicitor.

His absence sparked questions about the situation but Mayor of Welshpool Councillor Steve Kaye told the meeting that Mr Robinson was on leave.

Last year it was announced that Mr Robinson would be reducing his commitment to the authority and a deputy town clerk was appointed. It is understood the deputy is no longer employed by the council.

Mr Robinson has not responded to our request for a comment.
