Call to ‘regenerate’ Welshpool

Welshpool Labour Party is calling for the regeneration of Welshpool to be given priority by the Town Council.

The branch says it carried out a straw poll on Broad Street last month with many of those questioned saying that they want the shopping experience to be improved.

Ideas ranged from brightening the town up with floral displays to encouraging pop-up shops in empty premises and revamping the Market Hall.

“The Branch is planning on consulting shopkeepers and shoppers over the next few weeks before drawing up proposals to be presented to the Town Council,” said a spokesperson. “Anybody who wants to contribute to the proposals can email the Branch on welshpoollp@gmail.com.”

Branch members are currently involved in the process to select the Labour Party candidate for the Montgomeryshire Constituency.

As the Branch met the situation in Westminster was changing hourly, but Welshpool Branch Labour Party endorsed the approach taken by UK Labour to prioritise stopping a no deal exit from the EU over the need for an early election.
