Flash pitch crisis deepens

26/11/2019 @ 06:59

Local sport has again been thrown into chaos after it was revealed that The Flash ‘all-weather’ pitch could be out of action for several months.

The pitch was damaged by heavy flooding earlier this month, leaving sports clubs with no choice but to cancel training sessions due to the lack of a local alternative.

Welshpool Hockey Club have been particularly hard hit as they play their home matches at the facility, as well as holding coaching sessions for all ages.

And last night we were tipped off by a Flash insider that the pitch could well be out of action for some time.

“It could be months,” they told us. “The pitch is knackered and needs a new surface and that could apparently take up to eight weeks to re-lay it."

But then of course the question is who will pay for it? Cash-strapped Powys County Council handed over The Flash, along with its other leisure centres, to Freedom Leisure to run.

We have previously asked Freedom Leisure for an update, but did not receive a response. We will of course carry their official reply once received.
