Welshpool woke up to a hive of activity in the town centre on Saturday morning.
Emergency services headed to the Town Hall after its newly installed fire system sounded its alarms just before 9am.
However, it appears that the system, which cost up to £40,000 to install, was triggered by the market hall’s log burner.
One trader told us: “At least it shows the system is working!”
Despite a strong smell of smoke, the hall remained open for Saturday trade.
