£40k boost for Forden

18/12/2019 @ 12:02

Cyclists and walkers will no longer need to walk or ride on the busy A490 in Forden after a £40,000 project was confirmed.

The village will receive the cash boost to allow people to use the route without walking or riding on the busy road. The route will also link with the Offa’s Dyke Trail.

The cash is part of a £480,000 programme to support cycling and active travel schemes in the county.

Newtown will receive £150,000 with £50,000 each for three active travel projects in the town, and the Montgomery canal will get a big share of £200,000 as a contribution towards the overall cost of improving towpaths.

The county council has also received £25,000 to improve cycle and scooter storage/parking at several schools in the county. The money will provide new shelters and brackets would encourage more pupils to cycle or scoot to school.

Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor Heulwen Hulme said: “Improving walking and cycling connections between residential areas and important facilities such as school and medical centres is vital if we are to increase community activity.”
