Churches urge Coronavirus caution this Sunday

06/03/2020 @ 06:21

There’s a good chance that you won’t be shaking hands with your vicar this Sunday after the Church in Wales revised its Coronavirus guidance last night.

As the virus continues to trickle through to Wales, the Church has taken a ‘better-to-be-safe-than-sorry’ stance with many of the local congregations (like Guilsfield, pictured) in an age category where the virus is doing the most damage.

In a note to local churches, The Bench of Bishops of the Church in Wales stated: “The Bishops are encouraging congregations to pray for those infected by the virus, as well as their family and friends.

“They also advise that during Holy Communion, the public administration of the chalice (the wine) should cease in the Church in Wales until further notice and alternative forms of sharing the peace, which don’t involve physical contact, should be encouraged.”

Despite the tiny number of people being infected in the UK, widespread caution is encouraged across society to limit its spread.
