Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on
Monday 16th May 2011.
 
OTMS (73)
An entry of 73 over thirty month cattle sold to average 116ppkg for the cows, 118ppkg for the Bulls, and 133ppkg for the Under 48 Month old steers and 1235ppkg for the under 48 month old Heifers. W Evans & Son Hall Mill sold a British Blue cow weighing 840kg to £1117.20.Bowen & Bowen Penthryn sold a Limousin cow weighing 770kg to £1093.40. R M Morris Coed Cowrhyd sold Limousin bull to £1386.20.
W Evans & Sons Hall Mill Farm receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the Highest price older cow sold on the day.
  
FATCATTLE (9)
Only nine fat cattle presented for sale. Heifers averaged 179ppkg and Steers averaged 165ppkg. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach sold three fat heifers to 201ppkg which was bought by Rikki Lloyd of Welshpool and 194ppkg and 184ppkg was paid by M J Birtwistle & Co. M A Jones Pentre Hall sold a Limousin heifer to 184ppkg also. E A Marston New House sold a Limousin steer to 165ppkg. G Bound & Son Cefn Bach receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.
 
PRIME LAMBS (2385)
An entry of  2385 spring lambs, selling to an average of 266ppkg.
Lights (149) to 308ppkg from R S Jones 8 Y Ddol. Others to 290ppkg from Jones Brothers Rhiwaedog. Average of 277ppkg.
Standards (1029) to 289ppkg from BE & BE Langford Lletymeibion. Others to 282ppkg from J W Hopkin Bank Farm.  Average of 263ppkg.
Mediums (1158) to 285ppkg from F Humphreys & Son Moydog. Others to 284ppkg from T C Evans Cae Gwyn. Average of 267ppkg.
Heavy’s (21) to 259ppkg from P Unwin Tymawr. Others to 258ppkg from J W Hopkins Bank Farm. Average of 247ppkg.  
 
PRIME HOGGETS (2228)
An entry of 2228 Prime Hoggets, selling to an average of 226ppkg.     
Lights (139) to 213ppkg from H G Rees Hiriaeth. Others to 211ppkg from W I Ellis Talwrn. Average of 202ppkg.
Standards (283) to 243ppkg from Lythwood Sheep Ltd. Others to 231ppkg from C J Newey Mount Pleasant. Average of 213ppkg.  
Mediums (592) to 258ppkg from G Ratcliffe Whixall Hall. Others to 248ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Average of 235ppkg. 
Heavies (646) to 247ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Others to 243ppkg from Evan Davies & Co Red House. Average of 227ppkg.
Over Weights (282) to 229ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Others to 220ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Average of 210ppkg.
 
CULL EWE (2068)
A good entry of 2068 cull ewes sold well to average £68.57 per head for the ewes and £93.17 per head for the rams. Top price of the day was £123 per head for ewes from S J Smith Penybryn. HD & MW Pugh Tanycoed Ucha sold ewes to £117 per head. W J C Pryce Prenafal sold cull rams to £141 per head.  
  
STORE SHEEP
Couples
A reduced number and a slightly harder trade with ewes and lambs this week. As found ewes with triplets at foot sold to £198 from D R E Jones Offa Farm Montgomery. Full Mouth ewes with twin lambs at foot made £172 from F Bailey Pensarn and two and three year olds with twin lambs at foot reached £204.
Hoggs and Lambs
A very good quality entry of hoggs and lambs this week selling to a slightly reduced trade. Hoggs with sinlge lambs at foot topped the sale at £206 from I C Goodwin Lower Esgair Llanbadarn Fynydd. Hoggs with twin lambs at foot made £173 from R A George Penybanc New Chapel.
Sale of couples will commence at 10.30am next week. A special entry of 100 welsh & Bluefaced Leicester ewes with Bluefaced Leicester lambs at foot, mainly tup lambs to be included in the entry of couples next week.
 
COWS & CALVES
An Entry of 100 Cows & Calves and In calf Heifers met with an excellent trade throughout with buyers here from north and south wales mixing the bidding with the locals. Presented by BC & JW Evans Penrhos were five pure bred Limousin cows with pure bred calves at foot which sold from £1900 to £2440 for an outfit with a heifer calf. D P Evans Moelyygarth sold nine 1st Calvers with Limousin calves at foot to a top of £1760 to average £1595. JP& AL Morris sold a Belgian Bluex 1st calver with a Limousinx heifer calf at foot for £1860 with two other Belgian Bluex 1st Calvers with Limousin bull calves from the same home made £1460 and £1480. RE & CJ Davies Boycott Hall sold three Belgian Bluex 1st calvers with two heifers and one bull calf for £1460, £1540 and £1640. Three Limousinx 1st Calvers again with one bull and two heifer calves sold for £1440, £1570 and £1600. Price & Price Cwmearl sold five limousinx 1st calvers with Limousinx calves at foot to a top price of £1610 to average £1450. I & J Evans Llwyn Hywel Llanilar sold a Belgian Bluex 1st calver with a Limousinx heifer calf from the same home made £1740. W I Jones & Sons Cilcwm sold three Limousinx 1st Calvers with bull calves for £1520 and £1510 and £1420. A special entry from R & E Davies Hall of the Forest, as part of a herd dispersal sold to a top of £1210 to average £940. Whilst six in-calf heifers averaged £856. A breakdown of all prices achieved where as follows: £2000+ 2 lots, £1800 - £2000 3 lots, £1600 - £1800 10 lots, £1400 - £1600 20 lots, £1200 - £1400 13 lots, £1000 - £1200 17 lots, Less than £1000 25 lots.
