Local water levels “normal”

28/04/2020 @ 01:19

This year has certainly thrown the weather extremes at the Welshpool area with six weeks of floods followed by six weeks of unseasonably dry weather, but water chiefs are confident there won’t be any restrictions needed and that post-flood inspections will continue.

Today’s rain has brought welcome relief to gardens and water levels which were being eroded at an alarming rate.

But even so, Tracey Dunford, Water Resources Lead Specialist Planner for Natural Resources Wales (NRW), said: “Water levels across Wales are currently at ‘normal’ status for the time of year. We will continue to keep an eye on the situation and will issue updates if the status changes and any concerns arise.”

Hafren Dyfrdwy is the local water supplier who would introduce water restrictions like hose pipe bans, but they too have not shown any concern despite the prolonged dry spell up until this morning, with a spokesperson telling us "there is plenty of water for everyone".

Meanwhile, NRW added that post flood investigations and inspections on their structures and embankments will continue across the Welshpool area, despite the Government-enforced restrictions in place.

The area was hit hard by the floods through February and into March, with six consecutive weekends of storms saturating Montgomeryshire and causing widespread damage.
