Jobs go at big Welshpool firm

One of Welshpool’s most established companies has shed 10 per cent of its workforce in a move blamed on a ‘downturn in the order book’.

Twelve members of staff received redundancy notices this week at Carpenter & Paterson Ltd, reducing the workforce to 90 members of staff at their Henfaes Lane site.

The company’s managing director Jonathan Lee told mywelshpool the redundancies were unavoidable due to the slowdown as a whole in British industry.

“A number of the international Projects that we have been following for some time have been either cancelled, put back or placed on hold as a result of the more general economic downturn,” he said: “It was inevitable that this would impact on us at some stage. The Projects are still out there and we can see some signs of very steady recovery, but it will take time to build on this.”

Carpenter and Paterson Ltd are suppliers of specialist Pipe Suspension equipment to the Power Generation, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas and allied industries. It has been based on the Henfaes Lane Industrial Estate since 1956.
