Airport takes off once again

23/06/2020 @ 12:35

Welshpool’s air space is getting busier after the local airport reopened its runway on Monday.

Planes have started to land again following the First Minister’s easing of Covid-19 restrictions, but anyone planning to fly is being told to assess whether or not their journey to the airport would be considered to adhere to the latest guidance.

Initially, the airport will reopen from 9.30am-2pm, but this will be reviewed based on demand.

The airport announced: “Socially distancing in General Aviation is generally fairly easy to achieve due to the large open outdoor spaces at the airport. 2-metre social distancing measures are still in place in Wales and any flights taking place should only be either solo or shared with your household, unless you can keep 2m apart in the cockpit.

“The Fuel Stop Café will initially remain closed but do plan to reopen as soon as they can.”

Some planes have been landing at Welshpool throughout the pandemic for essential travel due to the Air Ambulance being stationed there. The airport was also given permission to carry out basic servicing flights for planes stationed there.
