With the summer events season completely written off, it appears that the autumn is going to be heavily impacted after the first big cancellation was confirmed.
The 1940s Weekend was due to be held at the end of September, but organisers have conceded defeat in order to safeguard public health as the Covid-19 crisis is set to rumble on for months to come.
Lead organiser, Alan Crowe, told us last night: “Having liaised with the Welsh Government, local authorities and after much deliberation, the committee has come to the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
“Due to the uncertainty of what Government guidelines will be in place by September and what the situation will be like in general, our priority is to safeguard public health. Many of our volunteers, exhibiters etc are in the ‘at risk’ category.
“To many of you, this news might be disappointing, but rest assured that this decision was not taken lightly. We originally planned on making a decision at the end of July but the information we requested came back sooner than expected.
“We hope that you understand the unprecedented circumstances in which we find ourselves.
“Thank you for your continued support and understanding and we look forward to welcoming you on September 24-16, 2021 with an event that will be bigger and better.”
The event will continue to fund raise through the year with more information on its pop-up shop here.
Some of the summer's events have moved online, with Guilsfield Show the latest to confirm that several activities will be held via competitions through the internet.
