Local revellers on Covid alert after Shrewsbury pub closure

12/08/2020 @ 09:49

Welshpool revellers who were out in Shrewsbury on Saturday night have been put on Covid-19 alert after a popular pub closed temporarily due to a customer testing positive.

The Boathouse Inn on the River Severn has been informed that a customer who visited the premises on Saturday night at 10pm has tested positive for the virus.

It will now close for a deep clean whilst it awaits further instruction from the NHS Track and Trace team, and says it will only reopen when it is safe to do so.

The pub has issued the following statement: “We have worked hard to put all the measures in place to keep our staff and customers safe; however we have been informed that a customer who is now Covid-positive visited our premises on August 8, at 10pm.

“We have followed government guidelines in terms of collecting customer contact details.

“The pub is now closed for a deep clean and we are awaiting further instruction from the NHS Test and Trace team.

“We will reopen the premises when it is safe to do so. Please keep an eye on our social media for any updates.”

A number of pubs across the country have had to do the same, as the Government tries to strike a balance between keeping pubs open whilst trying to stay on top of the spread of Covid-19.
