Dr. Lewis calls it a day

One of the partners at Welshpool Medical Centre is calling it a day.

Dr. Michael Lewis will retire from the practice at the end of September, 28 years after joining the partnership which was then Drs Hutchinson, Solomon, Townsend and Ryan.

Dr. Lewis announced: “I always thought I’d retire earlier than I eventually have! Working here has often been challenging, but it’s always been interesting and colleagues supportive, and it’s a great group of people to be involved with.

“It’s usual for retiring partners to reminisce about how things were in the ‘old days’ – both good and bad - and certainly there have been more changes and developments in the practice and the NHS over the last nearly 30 years than I could list.

“But the changes the practice has had to make to keep open and serving its patients safely during these last five months certainly count among the most complicated and difficult I can remember.

“They have only been possible through the hard work, the commitment and the willingness of all working here to adapt to patient needs as circumstances have changed.

“I’m delighted that Dr. Claire Hirons will join the partnership as I leave, and that Dr. Emily Kingham will also become a partner.

“There were several excellent applicants for the post, which I think shows how well the practice is seen from outside - these appointments will further strengthen the partnership and the practice for the future.

“I’d like to thank my partners, practice managers and the staff at both the medical centre and the hospital for their support and friendship throughout my time in the practice, and I wish them and our patients the very best.”
