There has been just one further positive Covid-19 test recorded in Welshpool over the past 24 hours, taking the total from nearly 500 tests taken at the mobile unit over the weekend to 27.

Contact tracers from the Test, Trace, Protect programme are working to trace the contacts of those who have tested positive to put a stop to the spread.

The centre, which was based at Welshpool's Neuadd Maldwyn from Friday-Monday, was co-ordinated by Powys Teaching Health Board, Powys County Council, Public Health Wales and the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust after a number of cases were confirmed in the area.

Less than 20 tests are yet to be processed and the results of those tests will be provided in due course.

Anyone who tests positive should self-isolate for at least 10 days.

The Rhallt care home has also taken extra precautions by postponing all visits until further notice to keep residents and staff safe.

Stuart Bourne, Director of Public Health for Powys Teaching Health Board, said: “Based on our testing so far, we are not seeing evidence of widespread community transmission in the Welshpool area.

“However, Coronavirus is still a very real threat to public health. All of us can help to keep Powys safe.

“Always observe social distancing. Wash your hands regularly. If you meet another household, outside your extended household, stay outdoors. Work from home if you can.

“Stay at home and get tested if you or anyone in your extended household has symptoms.”
