Mid-Wales Housing Association has released its latest ‘affordable’ housing estate to residents, following the completion of Maes-y-Dderwen, Llanfyllin.

The scheme provides 10 two, three and four bedroom homes located in a rural position adjacent to the existing Maes-y-Dderwen estate.

The homes, built by Williams Homes (Bala) Ltd, have been built to a very high standard of thermal efficiency and performance and comply with the Welsh Government’s Development Quality Requirements, Life Time Homes and Secured by Design Standards.

Mid-Wales Housing says it has promoted local employment and opportunities through the procurement of this scheme with the contractor required to employ 80% local labour and provide training placements for building trade apprentices.

Significant elements of the houses, such as timber frames and many of the building materials have been supplied by local companies.

The £1.9 m scheme was funded by significant funding from Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant with the remainder funded by Mid-Wales Housing Association.

Mr. Alex Dawson, Development Manager of Mid-Wales Housing, said: “We are proud of the homes that are being developed in the town which will not only provide quality affordable housing for local people but also support local employment.

“The development is on land long identified by the community as suitable for affordable homes, in a rural location, where making such schemes a reality is a real challenge. The partnership with Williams Homes is a very positive way of dealing with such opportunities and we very pleased to welcome local families into their new homes.”
